What MIMs have to say...
My return to exercise after having my baby over 4 years ago began in January 2012. I didn’t know that I could run. It wasn’t something I had ever done before, but I knew that I could walk at least, and so I wanted to be part of a group of similar women who had a need for “me” time as a woman and a mother! I feel so fortunate to have met Karen Kalan, and the incredible group of women who make up MIM, Encino. Karen is an inspiration, an incredible coach, and a wonderful individual. Without MIM Encino’s encouragement and ongoing support, I don’t think I would have completed the two 5K races and continue to feel challenged at
every MIM gathering. Karen pulls something new out of that infamous “sleeve” weekly, and keeps the workout juices flowing with an abundance of interest from everyone. Joining in with the Griffith Park MIM group from time to time is such a treat. They are an incredible group of ladies lead by the indefatigable Lucie. I cannot imagine my Saturday mornings without my “MIM fix”, and look forward to conquering many more running/triathlon challenges as they unfold. It was the right thing at the right time. ~ Bernadette
I was a walker/hiker who was just coming out of a bad health year when I saw an ad for Moms in Motion in Encino. I never envisioned myself as a runner, but I am approaching 50 and wanted to be more physically fit. At the first session, I could barely run for one minute. I was out of breath and my ankles ached. Everyone was at different levels, but Team Leader Karen Kalan and the other moms were so supportive. I followed the "Weekly Suggested Workout" and adopted the mantra "just keep going-just keep going" - sort of like Ellen DeGeneres' character in "Finding Nemo! Three months later I ran the Great Race of Agoura 5k in 42 minutes! I now jog/run about 3 miles 5 days a week. I am a little addicted to that time I spend on just me. I look forward to putting on my running shoes and getting on a trail. Moms In Motion has boosted me mentally and physically, as does the support I get from my husband and two kids (ages 18 & 13). Thanks Karen and all the MIMs for cheering me on to the next finish line! ~ Marcy
When I started running with Lucie on Saturday mornings 4 years ago, I had an 18 month old toddler, and had never considered running as anything more than a way to lose weight. I had never participated in sports and was intimidated even thinking about it! Since joining Moms in Motion and training with Lucie, I've run 6 half-marathons and countless 5k and 10ks. I've also run through two pregnancies with Lucie's guidance and have never felt better! I'm not sure that I would have accomplished this had I been training with anyone else. Lucie does not push me aggressively to attain specific goals, but rather, supports me as I set goals for myself and then helps me to find a path to achieving them. Thank you, Lucie! ~ Rebecca
Since joining Moms In Motion, led by Lucie Murray, a year and a half ago, my life changed for the better. I am stronger and I have more energy for my kids than ever before. Lucie is and extremely effective trainer because she cares genuinely and passionately about fitness, and she knows how to communicate and connect effectively with her clients. Five minutes in a room with Lucie is all it takes to see how excited she gets about the sport of running. She is not only an advocate for running, but also brings into her training, yoga, pilates, and strategies on how to cross train effectively. She successfully works with all levels of fitness and she has the expertise of knowing specifically how to train through pregnancies and post birth fitness. In Lucie’s “Weekly Suggested Workout”, which is an email sent out to the MIM team members, she sets out different levels of training to make sure she reaches everyone. Wherever you are in your fitness journey, Lucie will help you reach your goals. She is there for us in the good times and also in those tough moments. She has given me personal strategies to help me regain my strength and endurance through some difficult health challenges. The most important thing I have learned from Lucie is that with proper training, anything is possible. ~ Elizabeth
A day without Lucie is like a day without sunshine! I've trained with Lucie for four years, and I've never felt stronger or better! Lucie is an inspiring athlete and trainer, who's always thinking of ways to keep things interesting and challenging. One day we're climbing staircases, the next we're using foam rollers and jumpropes. We're never bored, and we're always having fun while pushing ourselves just a little more each time. ~ Pamela
When I joined Lucie’s fitness group, I was 51 years old, terribly out of shape and needed to lose a substantial amount of weight. I am no fitness buff, but figured it was “now or never” … and certainly couldn’t call it baby weight any longer with my child entering middle school. Less than a year later, I am 54 pounds lighter(Weight Watchers helped too) and in the best shape I’ve been in decades! My back doesn’t hurt anymore, I feel so much better and I’m enjoying all the compliments. I had to make the commitment, but Lucie showed me the way. ~ Vicki
